Ada Lovelace Day celebrates women in science, technology, engineering and math. And since we like all of those things, and women doing them, we thought we’d have a toast on the Kalamuna roofdeck here in Oakland. Pictured here are account manager Esther Vincent, and developers AmyJune Hineline and Katy Pool. So who was Ada Lovelace? Read on.
Ada Lovelace: The First Computer Programmer
An English writer and mathematician, she studied friend Charles Babbage’s mechanical general-purpose computer, the “analytical engine.” Her notes on the project, written 1842-43, describe the first algorithm to be executed by the machine, and it is for these notes that she is honored as the first computer programmer.
